Although the National French flag is the only official flag of France, there are also Regional French Flags as well.
If you’ve seen a map of France, you know that it is broken up into many different parts – and it can be quite confusing! First and foremost, France is broken up into regions. (It used to be broken up into provinces). Regions have authority over high schools, professional education, territorial planning, and economic development for that region.
Since the French National flag is the only official flag, the Regional French flags seen below are unofficial. Each region has created its own flag that is used in celebrations, cultural festivals, and more. However, just because a region has a flag does not mean it flies. Some regions use their flags more than others, and some not at all.
